About every 3-4 months, someone will call and ask about getting their bike back on the road. Some have lead a quiet life under a blanket in a heated garage for the last 15 years, others had a harder neglected life by leaning against the garage wall in the rain and heat for the last decade or more.
Each has a history, the first date with the wife, a cross country trip, a relative’s machine, a close friend’s legacy.
Getting this type of project gives the most joy. The talk of parting it out lasts about 2 minutes and then the picture forms of riding a newly rebuilt bike with some unnoticed modern upgrades for reliability and performance. A beautiful 30, 40, or 50 year old bike riding down the road and over the mountains if the final deliverable.
